A Good Candidate for Porcelain Veneers

A cosmetic dentist is frequently asked to do something known as a smile makeover. This tends to be a process by which the look of the teeth is greatly improved and it can demand tooth whitening and porcelain veneers. While these are fundamentally simple procedures that are not at all invasive or even intensive, they are not always the right solution for all patients.

A good candidate for porcelain veneers is someone who has experienced resistance to tooth whitening treatments, someone with small chips or cracks in the surface of their teeth, someone who may have widely spaced or uneven teeth in reasonably good condition, and someone who has worn down enamel but no need for restorative work.

Why can’t someone with deeply cracked teeth enjoy an application of porcelain veneers? They might be able to do so after a bit of restorative work is done on the tooth, but a cosmetic dentist might instead recommend a composite filling that is the same color as the tooth rather than both repair work and a veneer.

The reason that a veneer would not be used is simply because the dentist sees that the preservation of the natural tooth might not be accomplished if only the veneer is bonded to the surface. This tends to be the reason that only those with mild wear and tear are the ideal candidates for the work.

For instance, the patient who has undergone tooth whitening several times but who has yet to see the staining removed or the bleaching process successful might instead have porcelain veneers applied to their visible teeth.

Additionally, someone with widely spaced teeth, small chips, or uneven teeth will be able to usually get a smile makeover via the bonding of veneers to the teeth as well.
