How Invisalign® Works

When discussed in the company of words such as “invisible,” Invisalign® may at first seem too good to be true. At least, Twin Cities residents of St. Paul and Minneapolis who are not fully informed might think so! Below, we offer an overview of the treatment at Henrickson Dental:

Our orthodontists commence the process of creating your very own Invisalign® braces by utilizing three-dimensional computer imaging technology. First, bite impressions of the mouth will be taken; the computerized system will then take the molds into account in order to customize a series of clear retainers. Your first aligner will fit your teeth perfectly. From then on, the retainers will act just like braces, using steady pressure to gently realign your teeth over time.

The average Invisalign® patient will need to wear a total of 18 to 30 custom trays throughout the treatment. Many of the people we serve at our practice are pleased to learn that although the alignment retainers must be worn 24 hours a day, they can be removed during meals, brushing, or in the event of discomfort. This convenience eliminates the chances of food getting stuck in the metal brackets and eliminates the necessity of having to avoid certain foods.

Regarding the length of time required for Invisalign®, each retainer must be worn for two weeks, after which it is replaced by the next retainer in the series. The treatment is finished once your teeth are in the desired position and your bright, newly aligned smile has become a reality!
