Dental Implants

When you’re a child, missing a few teeth can be a source of pride. However, everything changes when you’re an adult, and missing teeth become something to hide. When there is extensive tooth loss, it becomes necessary to create artificial teeth so that the natural structure and expression of a patient’s smile is not also lost. One of the most remarkable new ways of achieving this is with dental implants. Our Minneapolis-area practice offers dental implants, as well as restoration for dental implant wearers.

Essentially, a dental implant is a metal device that imitates the work of a natural tooth root. Created out of titanium or similar metal, the implants are inserted into tiny holes along the jawbone. Once in place, they serve as permanent anchors for any pontics, or artificial teeth, that the patient needs, including dental bridges, porcelain crowns, or custom-fitted dentures. An additional benefit of having dental implants is that they do not require the support of any surrounding teeth, which improves the overall structure of the mouth.

Should the patient lack sufficient healthy jawbone to allow for the dental implants, there is a second method of implantation. Rather than insert the implants directly into the jawbone, a metal frame is designed to fit over the bone.

TMJ Therapy

He was taught by the Dawson Center for Advanced Dentistry, which has been training dental professionals in their therapeutic methods for nearly 30 years. Just in front of the ear , there is a joint which slides and rotates, allowing the jaw to open, close, and move from side to side. This is the temporomandibular joint. Essentially, it is where the lower jawbone connects to the side and base of the skull. TMJ disorder is a condition associated with a misaligned or damaged jaw, such as malocclusion. Many of our patients with bite problems experience symptoms such as chronic headaches, jaw aches, ear aches, and neck pain due to TMJ disorder. TMJ pain can also be stress-related, caused by habitual clenching, grinding, and overusing the mouth muscles.

Same-day Dentures

When a patient has extensive tooth loss, damage or decay, and multiple extractions are required, replacing teeth with dentures is a time-tested solution. Because they are able to fill out facial structure lost by large gaps and holes in the gum line, dentures allow many of our patients to regain natural facial expressions and a confident smile. At our Minneapolis-area office, same-day dentures are one of our most specialized and sought-after treatments. We offer precision-attached, metal-free full or partial dentures, depending upon the individual needs of our patients.

Full dentures are used when all of the patient’s teeth need replacing; however, with partial dentures, Dr. Mike and Dr. Myron can create natural-looking replacements to restore just a section of the teeth. With discreet metal-free precision attachments, denture patients never have to mess with dental adhesives.

Receiving dentures does require several appointments to prepare the patient’s mouth for the procedure. First, the doctor will make impressions of the teeth and a model of the jaws. From these models, a set of customized dentures will be created. Once the dentures have been crafted and sent to our office, the patient will come in for the same-day procedure. This procedure involves the removal of all necessary teeth, and then the denture placement itself. After the doctor has examined the fit and appearance of the new teeth, patients can leave our office with a new set of beautiful dentures.

Dental Bridges
