Are you aware of the risks of dental anxiety and what you can do to protect your teeth and gums? Although we often think of dental anxiety as a condition that only children suffer from, it is possible to have fears and concerns later on in life. Many individuals like to have their bubble, and when individuals break that bubble for intensive cleaning procedures on their teeth, it is entirely possible that you find yourself struggling with stress and worries associated with dental anxiety. However, dental anxiety can be treated.

The fear of the unknown is often one of the greatest risks associated with dental anxiety. We are often afraid of things we don’t understand, so be sure to always speak with your dentist about your dental anxiety worries and concerns to get a better grasp on any oral health care procedures you may require. Furthermore, consider holding stress-relieving tools while oral health care treatments are to be given. This can include fidget spinners or stress relieving squeeze balls. Calming and relaxing music has also been shown to be beneficial for alleviating issues associated with dental anxiety. Furthermore, if you have concerns about any pain you will feel, sedation dentistry has numerous drugs that can be given to ensure that your experience will be a pain-free one.

Stress is often one of the key links to dental anxiety. Thus, it is important to get your stress under control. You can do this by practicing meditative techniques such as yoga or implementing breathing techniques such as deep breathing or counting your breaths. It’s also helpful to put your mind in a happy place, including visualizing yourself at a relaxing beach or garden.

Optimum oral health care success comes courtesy of dental anxiety recognition. You are welcome to call Henrickson Dental at our dentist office in Maplewood, Minnesota, at 651-777-8900. Dr. Mike Henrickson and our entire team want to help you treat any issues that arise with your oral health.

If you have questions about dental X-rays, then you have come to the right blog. Today, our dentists, Drs. Henrickson and Cha, are discussing details about dental X-rays. In fact, they are happy to do so by answering common questions about dental X-rays. Who knows, these answers might just be the answers you need! Those common dental X-ray questions are:

Q: What are dental X-rays?
A: Dental X-rays are in-depth pictures that help your dentist understand the complete health of your teeth, roots, underlying bone, jaw and more. They are also known as radiographs and they are essential parts of any dental plan.

Q: What types of X-rays are available?
A: The most commonly used X-rays are the Bitewing X-rays and the Panoramic X-rays. The Bitewing X-rays involve biting down on a piece of plastic while the machine sits beside your cheek and takes pictures. The Panoramic X-ray involves standing on a platform and allowing the machine to rotate around the head and take pictures. This X-ray takes photos of the entire mouth in one film.

Q: Do X-rays hurt?
A: X-rays do not cause pain or discomfort.

Do you have additional questions that weren’t included in this blog? If so, call Henrickson Dental today at 651-777-8900. Our dental team will be more than happy to tell you all about dental X-rays in Maplewood, Minnesota. We look forward to helping you!

Are you aware of the symptoms of jaw or facial pain? Jaw or facial pain can arise due to pain in or around the ears, tenderness with your jaw when biting, or linked to frequent headaches. Due to the numerous causes of jaw pain, it can often be difficult to determine exactly where it’s coming from. Thus, a visit to your dentist to help diagnose the exact cause and treat it, will be needed.

If you are under the effects of jaw or facial pain, your dentist can help determine what is the best treatment plan for your individual oral health care needs. Several varieties of treatment that can be extremely helpful include antibiotics, anti-inflammatory drugs, medications, muscle relaxants, as well as oral health care exercise routines. Your dentist may also suggest the addition of mouth protectors including mouth guards, night guards, or bite plates. In addition, extensive treatments may be needed for joint pain if any underlying conditions are causing it. If you have severe pain, a root canal therapy, periodontal treatment, and potential tooth extractions may be required.

The causes of jaw pain can vary significantly. Jaw pain can arise from several sources including sinus problems, arthritis, oral accidents and injuries, oral infections, and other similar issues. Furthermore, numerous oral health ailments can also lead to jaw and facial pain, such as bruxism, periodontal disease, TMJ disorders, and toothaches.

If you suffer from jaw or facial pain, speak with Henrickson Dental at 651-777-8900 to see which treatment is right for you. If you are in need of a dentist in Maplewood, Minnesota, you can schedule an oral examination with Dr. Mike Henrickson or Dr. Chue Cha at our dentist office.

If you are in the market for a stain-resistant shell to be applied to your teeth to drastically enhance the look of a tooth and give you the smile makeover you’ve always dreamed of, consider cosmetic dentistry to meet your needs. Cosmetic dentistry features a multitude of treatments that can drastically improve your smile. One highly effective option to consider is dental veneers.

Dental veneers are highly effective tooth replacement options due to their ability to be customized and created for the exact smile you desire. Dental veneers can be modified based on size, shape, and even color. When veneers are made from porcelain materials, they are stain-resistant and easily colored to mimic the look of your natural teeth. However, veneers do not guard your teeth on all sides, so it is essential to maintain healthy oral hygiene habits such as brushing and flossing daily even after they are placed.

Dental veneers are tooth restoration procedures that fall in line with traditional cosmetic dentistry treatments to improve your smile. Veneers work by attaching thin, yet durable shells to the fronts of teeth for a solid hold that can vastly enhance the appearance of your smile. Dental veneers can last up to a decade of heavy wear before they need to be replaced.

If you are in need of a dental veneers treatment from our team at Henrickson Dental at our dentist office in Maplewood, Minnesota, please contact us at 651-777-8900 to schedule an appointment with Dr. Mike Henrickson or Dr. Chue Cha.

That haunting time of year is here. Halloween is such a fun time, with costumes, spooky movies, and trick-or-treating. Avoiding candy at Halloween can be very difficult. That is why Dr. Mike Henrickson and our team would like to tell you which candies are best and worst for your teeth and your child’s teeth.

Sticky or Gummy Candy

Gummy worms, caramel, and the like are popular Halloween treats. These candies can easily stick to the teeth and stay there long after the treat has been eaten. To avoid potential damage, have your child enjoy sticky and gummy candies one piece at a time and make sure they chew thoroughly.

Hard Candy

Hard candies are among the most harmful to the teeth. This is because hard candies like lollipops linger in the mouth for the longest, thus giving the sugars plenty of time to damage the teeth.

Sour Candy

We suggest encouraging your child to limit or avoid sour candies, especially if they are sticky or coated in sugar. Sour candies are often very acidic, so they can weaken or damage the tooth enamel. This leaves the teeth more vulnerable to tooth decay.

Popcorn Balls

If you or your child enjoys popcorn balls, make sure to keep floss handy. The kernels can easily get stuck between the teeth. In addition, they are sugary, sticky, and sometimes hard.

Chewing Gum

Chewing gum is one of the safest Halloween treats. It does linger in the mouth, but the gum stimulates saliva production, which rinses the mouth and keeps bacteria at bay. To even further protect your child’s teeth, choose a sugar-free gum.

Chocolate

Chocolate is also a great Halloween treat. Part of what makes chocolate so great is that it washes off of the teeth more easily than other candies. Dark chocolate is the best type for the teeth, as it has less sugar than other chocolates.

We encourage you to contact Henrickson Dental at 651-777-8900 today for more Halloween tips and to schedule a visit with our dentist in Maplewood, Minnesota.

Oral hygiene is the practice of keeping your teeth, gums, and mouth clean to prevent dental issues. In order to have good oral hygiene, you need to have clean teeth, healthy gums, and pristine breath. To achieve that goal, our dentist, Dr. Mike Henrickson, has some tips and recommendations for you.

The first things you need to do is brush and floss. It’s important to brush twice a day and floss once a day. As you do these things, use a soft-bristled toothbrush, fluoride toothpaste, and dental floss that have been approved by the American Dental Association. As you brush, make sure to scrub for two minutes each time. In addition, it’s vital to visit your dentist every six months for a routine dental checkup.

The second thing you need to do is have a healthy and balanced diet. This means you should avoid tooth-harming foods and drinks (like sugary and acidic products) and eat and drink more tooth-healthy products (like dairy products, water, milk, fruits, and vegetables). It’s also best to avoid snacking as much as possible.

The third thing you need to do is use fluoride dental products. Fluoride is a natural mineral that strengthens your tooth enamel and helps you prevent dental issues. So, make sure to use fluoride toothpaste as you brush and rinse with fluoride mouthwash if necessary.

If you have any questions or if you would like to know more about how to have good oral hygiene in Maplewood, Minnesota, please contact Henrickson Dental at 651-777-8900 at your earliest convenience. Our dental team is happy to help you in any way we can, and we look forward to giving you the answers you need!
